1998 FIFA WORLD CUP - France
The 1998 FIFA World Cup, the 16th staging of the World Cup, was held in France from June 10 to July 12 after 60 years to celebrate the third edition scheduled in 1938. France was chosen as hosts by FIFA on July 1, 1992.
A total of 64 matches were played during the 1998 FIFA World Cup™ finals in France. The tournament provided us with two of the greatest goals in FIFA World Cup™ history; from Owen (ENG) and Bergkamp (NED). Hosts France shocked the favourites Brazil in the final with talisman Zidane (FRA) scoring twice in a famous 3-0 victory, and the first host nation to win the tournament since Argentina did it in 1978.
